Our International Projects
In 1985, Rotary launched its PolioPlus program to eradicate global polio through the mass vaccination of children. Rotary has contributed more than $1.7 billion and countless volunteer hours to immunize more than 2.5 billion children in 122 countries.
We donated £1750 to SolarAid, an international charity that combats poverty and climate change. It provides access to safe, clean and affordable solar lamps in some of the most remote regions of Malawi, Uganda and Zambia
Shoeboxes for Romania
Pupils of several Berkhamsted schools generously support Rotary's project each year to fill hundreds of shoe boxes with Christmas gifts for less fortunate children in Eastern Europe. These are transported to Romania and distributed by local Rotary Clubs
A sand dam is a reinforced rubble cement wall built across a seasonal sandy river. Sand dams are the most cost-effective method of water conservation in dryland environments.
We helped fund Joseph Dumbya through dental school. He is now a qualified dental surgeon and has set up a clinic in his home town Freetown, Sierra Leone, to provide dental care for people from all walks of life
Emergency Disaster Relief
Every year we fund Shelterboxes for families made homeless in disaster zones worldwide.
Shelterbox works closely with Rotary in disaster zones and we're confident that our contributions are used effectively.
Tools for Self Reliance
We collect unwanted hand tools and sewing machines which are then refurbished and sent to Africa by Workaid, wonderful charity based in Chesham. This enables people in remote communities to become self sufficient by setting up and running their own businesses.
Nepal hospital equipment
The Anandaban Hospital team in Nepal purchased a new electronic tourniquet with funds provided by Berkhamsted Rotary. So far, 20 patients have benefitted from this equipment and it is already making a brilliant difference for both the staff and patients.
